THEATRE FOR COMMUNITIES
Brendan has wide experience working with a diverse range of community groups on arts projects, specialising in theatre.
In 2016, he collaborated with Yackandandah Cemetery Trust and Yackandandah & District Historical Society to research and produce From Here To There, a collection of six monologues inspired by the lives and experiences of real people from Yackandandah's history. The monologues were then performed by Yackandandah Theatre Company for the community, in the enchanting grounds of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. The project was a wonderful for a community to connect to its past.
In 2017, he collaborated with Yackandandah Health and the residents of its community-owned aged-care facility to create a show which celebrated and honoured elders from the community. The end result was a collection of seven monologues about love, loss and a long-life, performed by Yackandandah Theatre Company for the community in a series of outdoor shows at Yackandandah Health. At a time when aged-cared facilities were in the news for all the wrong reasons, the project brought the community to its elders and enabled them to reconnect with these valuable assets.
